The ancient bazaar at Virupakshapura, (also known as Hampi) was documented with all its architectural and archaeological vestiges to prepare a Conservation strategy for Virupaksha Bazaar area and its immediate surroundings including development strategy to accommodate the visitor and heritage management needs.
A detailed measured drawing of the architectural members of bazaar mandapas, along with the numbering of each architectural member, levels of original plinth level at regular intervals was recorded for the full extent of bazaar. The documentation exercise included archival research from the British survey in 1880, to the Vijayanagara Research Project mapping (1980-2000), and Archaeological survey of India mapping (2002 & 2012) and maps all the changes since 1880’s to 2015-16.
