Jagan Mohan Palace constructed in 1861 in Mysore is home to Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery. Originally built as a summer retreat, it has changed roles throughout history; serving as a royal residence when the main palace burnt down in the fire of 1897, later on was the venue for Coronation and Marriage of Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and then First People’s Representative Assembly in the state of Mysore. Today it functions as a museum and houses collections of Raja Ravi Varma, Chugtai, Roerich, Gagendranath Tagore and others.
Restoration works undertaken include repairs to structural and aesthetic deterioration caused due to previous intervention, failure of wooden members, drainage issues and water ingress, termite infestation treatment, waterproofing and maintenance.
The gallery was reopened after 10 months of rigorous conservation works in June 2019.
